Manana Elementary:
On August 28, 2017, our team began our mentorship program with the Manana Elementary School for VEX IQ in the game of the season. We work with the students, on average, two times a week. Before we arrived, the bright minds of the students had already begun learning about the different skills needed to build a working robot and even the game.
One of the reasons for starting a robotics program at the elementary level is to become a "hub of robotics" for students, with programs going from elementary school to high school level. Students are able to start learning about robotics at a young age and form prior knowledge before they pursue robotics in their education and job careers.
In addition, being a part of robotics provides students with opportunities for scholarships and apprenticeships in the STEM field that would not otherwise be available to them. Moreover, robotics provides a solid foundation for students interested in pursuing engineering.
Lastly, Manana elementary is one of Pearl City High School’s feeder schools, meaning that the students most likely will attend Pearl City High School. We hope that after participating in robotics in elementary school and being assisted by students who went through a similar process, they will join the robotics program when they become high schoolers.

Pearl City Highlands Elementary School:
On August 29, 2017, the team began our first mentorship program with the Pearl City Highlands Elementary School VEX IQ team. We work with the students, on average, two days a week. When we got there, the students were really excited to put together a robot and watch it come to life.
We believe that starting a new team at the elementary school is a great opportunity to use what we know in VEX to educate them. Many of our team members have previous experience of VEX IQ and other elementary level robotics, so we have been where they are.
In addition, robotics is a great way to create a solid foundation for students interested in majoring in engineering. We assist them in the STEM field at a young age so that they are able to have a variety of knowledge, as it comes from both older students and their own teachers at the elementary school.
